Whole wheat pizza by Christina Gurunian
Pizza is undoubtedly one of the most loved & popular comfort foods ever. It’s cheesy, it’s yummy, and it’s just good. Kids love pizza so do the adults. But a great pizza is one that is also wholesome and healthy. In this recipe, Christina Gurunian is using a blend of whole wheat and unbleached flours, however, you can use 100% whole wheat flour without any compromise in taste.
This dough is so fluffy and yet crisp, it tastes absolutely delicious.
Ingredients for pizza dough:
- 400 g whole wheat flour
- 200 g unbleached flour
- 400 g water
- 4 g instant yeast
- 10 g salt
- 8 g olive oil
Preparation for the pizza dough:
- Combine the flours, salt, and yeast in the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with a dough hook attachment.
- Add the water and olive oil to the flour mixture. Knead with the dough hook attachment for 5-8 minutes.
- Lightly grease a bowl with olive oil and place the dough in it. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rise at room temperature for 2-3 hours or until doubled in size.
- Split the dough into 4 equal portions in the form of balls.
- Preheat oven to 475°F (246°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or pizza pan with olive oil.
- Use your fingers or a rolling pin to make discs around 12 inches in diameter. Cover dough lightly with a clean kitchen towel and allow to rest for a few minutes.
- Add the toppings. This time we used tomato sauce, sundried tomatoes, mozzarella cheese. You can add mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives. Well, anything except pineapples because that’s a blasphemy to Pizza Gods!
- Put the pizza in the hot oven and cook for 10-15 minutes until the pizza is beautifully golden brown and the cheese is melted. Garnish with fresh arugula or basil. Enjoy!
